Exciting News for Our Community: New Multi-Use Trail Coming to 131st Street
The Village will receive $568,552 for the construction of the 1.84-mile long, 10-foot wide multi-use path on 131st Street.
As part of the HOA board of The Glens of Connemara, we are thrilled to share some exciting developments that will soon benefit all of us here in Lemont. The Village has been awarded a $568,552 state grant to support the construction of a long-awaited multi-use trail that will run along 131st Street right near our subdivision.
This project is part of the Illinois Transportation Enhancement Program (ITEP) and includes a 1.84-mile long, 10-foot wide path designed for walking, biking, and other non-motorized use. The trail will extend from Derby Road at Pine Needles Drive to Bell Road, making it much easier and safer for residents to connect to nearby neighborhoods and destinations.
Village Manager George Schafer shared that this route has been in the planning stages for years and will provide a much-needed solution for 131st Street, which currently lacks any pedestrian accommodations. Thanks to this funding, the Village can continue its engineering work and move closer to construction.
Beyond being a great addition to our area, this trail is part of a larger statewide effort to create more connected, accessible communities. Lemont’s project was one of 66 across Illinois chosen for funding, out of 233 total applications. In total, more than $139 million is being invested in sidewalks, bike paths, and local transportation enhancements.
For us in The Glens, this new trail means improved safety, better access to local amenities, and a more active, community-friendly environment—right outside our door.
We’ll keep you posted as this project moves forward. In the meantime, it’s great to see our community receiving this kind of support and investment for the future!
