Know the Rules: What Personal Transportation is Allowed in Glens of Connemara

As personal transportation options continue to evolve, it’s important for residents of Glens of Connemara to stay informed about what is and isn’t permitted within our community spaces. With the growing popularity of electric scooters, e-bikes, hoverboards, and other powered devices, the Lemont Park District has outlined specific rules to ensure public safety, protect our trails, and promote fair access for all.

Whether you’re enjoying a ride through the neighborhood or taking in the scenic beauty of our park district trails, please take a moment to review these guidelines. Understanding and following them helps maintain the charm, safety, and serenity of the Glens of Connemara for everyone.

As more residents explore alternative forms of personal transportation—from e-bikes to scooters—it's important to understand what is and isn’t allowed within the Glens of Connemara subdivision, particularly on trails and park district property managed by the Lemont Park District.

To help keep our neighborhood safe, accessible, and enjoyable for everyone, the Lemont Park District has set clear guidelines for micro mobility and small electric vehicles. Here's a breakdown:

✅ ALLOWED:
Micro mobility devices that can be pedaled or moved manually, or classified as Other Power Driven Mobility Devices (OPDMDs)—such as electric wheelchairs—are permitted. However, when used on District property (such as park trails or open spaces), these must be operated in manual mode only.

Permitted devices include:

Type I and II E-bikes
Electric Wheelchairs
These options are seen as safe, accessible, and appropriate for use on shared paths.

❌ NOT ALLOWED:
All other small, low-speed, human-, combustion-, or electric-powered devices are not permitted. This includes, but is not limited to:

Electric scooters (e-scooters)
Mini-bikes
Mopeds
Segways
Trail/Dirt Bikes
Hoverboards and electric skateboards
These devices pose safety risks on shared pathways and disrupt the intended use of community trails and parks.

Why These Rules Matter
These policies are in place to protect pedestrians, preserve park paths, and ensure inclusive access for people of all ages and abilities. By following the rules, residents contribute to a safer, more welcoming neighborhood environment.

If you're unsure whether your device is allowed, a good rule of thumb is: if it can be pedaled or is a medically necessary device like an electric wheelchair, it’s likely permitted—just keep it in manual mode when on park district property.

Let’s all do our part to keep Glens of Connemara a safe and peaceful place to live and explore.
